Project Runaway: Rare Philippine Five peso coin from the Bagong Lipunan series

P 5.00  Five Peso Philippine coin circa 1979

During the Marcos era, the Central Bank of the Philippines came up with what I can describe as more 'stylish' and 'glamorous' coins.  This piece of currency served like a vanity plate for President Ferdinand Marcos.   The original image model of the Philippine five peso bill was Emilio Aguinaldo.  But with this Bagong Lipunan collection, Marcos decided to shove the five peso bills aside, and replace it with shiny, shimmery and splendid coins.  The coins were literally heavy on the pocket.  They were almost twice as big and twice as heavy as the regular coins.

These coins were in moderate circulation.  They were around pretty much during the mid-70s to the early 80s.

Rare Philippine Five pesos coins of the Bagong Lipunan series, strikes a pose!  My family's collection are from the years' 1975, 1978 and 1979:

PHILIPPINE COINS CIRCA 80s - the fashionable and the make-overs

The 80s were marked by eccentricity and experimentation.  I think the coins in the Philippines had it share of what we call some 'big hair' moments in the 80s.
There was the 'chicklet' 1 centavo coin, the flower 5 centavo coin, the 2 peso bill gets a make-over!

the fashionable chicklet and flower coins (utmost right) - 1 centavo and 5 centavos, respectively.
The 1 Peso, 24 and 10 centavo designs, in my opinion were one of the most simple yet cool designs ever issued by the Central Bank

The 2 Peso bill gets a make-over!  First time that the decagon coin was introduced to the market.

THE CHICLET COIN of Philippine currency - 1 Centavo

These Philippine 1 centavo coins were square-shaped with rounded edges, so lightweight, and made a clickety sound.  Growing up in the mid-70s to the 80s, I thought these were part of my toys.  Until I found its distant cousin. (see picture below)
